Greek tragedy for Bailey
by Andy McKenzie
Donovan Bailey's struggles continued when he was disqualified from the men's 60m at the IAAF indoor meeting in
Athens, Greece on February 9.
- The Olympic 100m champion from Canada saw his hopes of getting back to winning ways end with two false starts.
- The 32-year-old Bailey returned to action at the end of January after seeing his career threatened by an Achilles
injury in September 1998.
- But the Canadian has struggled to find the form that saw him break the 100m world record and take gold at the 1996
Olympic Games in Atlanta, USA.
- His compatriot Bruny Surin also had an off day, making a poor start and having to settle for fourth place
in a time of 6.55 seconds.
- Britain's Jason Gardner carried on his impressive form by winning a photo finish in a time of 6.51, ahead
of Georgios Theodoridis of Greece - who clocked the same time - and Fredy Mayola of Cuba.
