Life's a beach in Brazil

The second mens event of the 2000 Beach Volleyball FIVB World Tour takes place in Brazil on January 18-23,
with high hopes of a home victory.
- Brazilian pair Emanuel-Loiola - the current world no.1 - head a list of 61 teams who will be hoping
to further their chances of a qualification place for the Sydney 2000 Olympics at the Brazil Open in Guaruj.
- Emanuel-Loiola are virtually assured of their place in Sydney, having won seven of the 14 qualifying rounds so far.
However, they will be hoping to do well in Guaruj after a poor showing in Argentina, where they lost in the third
round to Canadian pair Child-Heese.
- They are likely to be pushed all the way by fellow Brazilians Zé Marco-Ricardo and
Pará-Guilherme, currently ranked second and third respectively.
- Salema-Baracetti of Argentina will have to go through the two-day qualification tournament if they are to
follow up their win on home soil in Mar del Plata on January 16, having missed the deadline for the main draw.
