Shaibu fires warning to Gunners
by Andy McKenzie
Nigerian coach Amodu Shaibu has warned English Premiership side Arsenal they will face FIFA sanctions
if they play striker Nwankwo Kanu after January 6.
- With the African Nations Cup beginning on January 22, Shaibu is desperate for Kanu - the current African Footballer
of the Year - to meet up with the rest of the squad.
- But the Gunners, who are struggling with injury problems up front, are hoping to play the 23-year-old in their
FA Cup fourth round game against Leicester on January 9.
- However, Shaibu has called for the club to be thrown out of the FA Cup if they do not release the forward, as
FIFA rules state that players must be available at least 14 days before an official tournament.
- Nigeria are co-hosts of this years tournament, along with Ghana, and begin their campaign against
Tunisia on January 23 in Lagos.
