A right Royal warning for the IOC
by Andy McKenzie
Princess Anne has questioned the International Olympic Committees (IOC) new reforms and warned they may be
impossible to enforce.
- The Princess Royal, Britains representative on the IOC General Assembly, admitted she was one of just 10
members who voted against the idea to prevent members visiting cities who are bidding to host future Olympic Games.
- Princess Anne said she believes members should still be allowed to visit cities hoping to host the Olympics,
providing it is not in connection with the bid.
- The IOC have recently acted in an attempt to clean up its image and make itself more accountable, following the
outcry over revelations that members had accepted gifts in return for votes for Salt Lake Citys bid to host the
2002 Winter Olympics.
- Other changes brought in include mandatory retirement at the age of 70, members needing to be re-elected every
eight years and the number of athletes gaining membership to increase.
